Happy Losar

Screen Shot 2013-02-11 at 9.26.42 AMHappy Losar to all! Yesterday was the beginning of the Tibetan and the Chinese New Year, and if we so choose, we have an opportunity to look back at the past year to see what ‘negative’ habits we would like to discard, and what ‘positive’ habits we would like to adopt. Things that we know are not serving us, and things we know we would benefit from. Now, there are no auspicious dates or times, but we make them so. By taking the time to contemplate, and set a direction for ourselves that is intentional, we can begin to live by vow and not by karma. This means that we put ourselves in the ‘driver’s seat’ instead of allowing our emotions and past conditioning to dictate the course of our lives. Pick one or two things on either side of the spectrum, and vow to make those changes. It is more important to be prudent, so that we can keep the vow, than to go for something that is out of our reach. If we are not ready to make a vow for the whole year at this time, start with a day, a week, a month, and build from there. Our minds will start believing that we will actually do what we say we will do, and our confidence will build over time. And, our lives will actually move in a direction we claim we want…More happiness, more of the time!
