There is no need to ’empty’ the mind, as it is already empty

There is no need to ’empty’ the mind, as it is already empty.

The mind is empty and luminous.

It is because the mind is empty and luminous — that a thought, feeling, sound, touch or taste can ‘appear’ and be perceived.

Any perception is our very own mental representation of something (or a combination of things) from our past. Even when we are asleep and dreaming, this happens. Sometimes our experience is even more ‘real’ in a dream.

It is because the mind is empty, that clouds and rainbows can appear in the sky; a room can hold objects and persons; a glass can be filled with water, and our mind can have thought, feelings etc.

Think of it as a container able to ‘hold’ contents.

Now, all that appears in our mind we can either watch for a moment and let pass…or we can follow or hold onto it.

A thought is momentary and will pass in no time, but if we ‘grasp’ onto any feeling, person, object or memory, it grows bigger and bigger until it overwhelms and becomes all we think about or focus on.

When you realize you are following an old thought, feeling, habit or idea—simply let it go–let it pass by like the proverbial bird in the sky, that leaves no trace…
