So many blessings…

IMG_1339So many blessings, I don’t know where to start this morning…

I received these beautiful roses and peonies from my sons last night — now placed on my altar as an offering to all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.

As I did my practice this morning, I contemplated various things…

How my father, when I was growing up, would come and wake me in the morning with  “Good Morning Beautiful Human Child”  (Well, in Swedish at the time…) always such a sweet way to wake up to a new day!  I have later come to appreciate those words, and how I always knew that I was ‘perfect’ — not in a ‘better than’ sense — but at my core. I now call that ‘Buddha Nature’, the inherent natural perfection that is the base of all sentient beings.

I reflected on how my sons are taking responsibility for their own lives. How they don’t blame anyone or anything for what their lives or their world looks like. Instead what I hear from them is gratitude; stories of experiences that has had great meaning in their lives, and how glad they are for having had a simple down to earth upbringing. The stuff that was difficult, they look upon as lessons of what not to do, or caution of what can happen—not to take life or people for granted. They keep contact with their grandparents, via phone or email, despite the distance and their very different stage of life.

Then it all brought me back to my altar and my teacher — how grateful I am to have found an authentic teacher, who can be my guide on the path to awakening. Who has encouraged me from the beginning, like the Buddha himself, to test what I hear against my reason and my experience — to see if it aligns with me.

There has been a lot of ‘testing’ going on for these 4 years since I met him, and I always come back to ‘this’ being my path. This being my lineage. Him being my Teacher. Faith, I have come to know, is not blind belief – it is the certainty that everything that happens is for the best. I can now say I have certainty.

So, the flowers that were a gift from my sons, are now here on my altar, as an offering to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas – who symbolize this ‘Buddha Essence’ this Natural Perfection – all the amazing qualities that we all have inside of us just waiting to be discovered — unveiled.

I rejoice — what a way to start my day…!!!
