Great Middle Way

Every external manifestation of disease is a marker for a previous corresponding internal state. In every case, stabilization of the mind, removal of obstacles to the flow of energy (prana), and harmonization of the elemental modes of nature are necessary conditions for regaining health. 

There are six principles that we must understand in treating disease: 

  1. The principle of Agency: action must always be ascribed to the subject, and not to that upon which the subject acts. That is, there are no “active agents” in remedies, be they chemical or physical; it is always the organism that acts. 
  2. The principle of Action: the secondary effect of an action is opposite to the primary effect. For example, if we administer heat, after a brief rise in temperature, the organism will react by reducing temperature.
