Guilt and blame – two sides of the same coin

Screen Shot 2013-07-18 at 6.41.49 AMGuilt is what we feel – or what we try to make others feel – by assigning blame.

Blame is actually a misunderstanding. Blame implies that there is a willful violation.

So we have to ‘go back’ and do the analysis.

Why do sentient beings (including ourselves) do what we do?

We have to take one more step back, and realize that we all want happiness, and to avoid suffering.

However, sometimes we are so immersed in suffering that we cannot even think of happiness — we just want the pain to stop.

But they are basically two sides of the same coin.

Happiness is ALL that everybody wants. The animals, the human beings, the Gods…everybody! That is the actual only purpose and motivation of every one.

The fundamental problem is that we do not know how!?

So if we understand that, and we realize that we have behaved badly…there is a reason for our bad behavior —  and it is ignorance. Ignorance of what? Of ‘how’ to be happy.

We have to eliminate assigning blame. As long as we exclude even one single sentient being from our compassion, we are blaming ourselves.

So there is no blame, just a recognition of ignorance. All of us are trying to be happy. Nobody does anything for any other reason than for the purpose of being happy or to avoid suffering.
