Learn to control the ‘highs’ because we cannot control the ‘lows’…

Screen Shot 2013-02-26 at 4.00.18 PMWe are a society that runs on caffeine and stimulants of all kinds. We are supposed to work harder, accomplish more, look happy all the time, get a better job, better car, better house…drive our kids to lessons of every kind, and just keep on going…

First of all, none of ‘that’ will truly make us happy even though we seem to think so.

Having things cannot make us happy.

Other people cannot make us happy.

We have to find happiness within.

And, only by understanding how our minds work, can we find answers on how to make our minds work for us, instead of being a slave to the whims of our ego, which usually ‘run’ us.

So back to controlling our ‘highs’…Just like a pendulum can only swing as high in the opposite direction as it is pulled in the original direction — when we control our ‘highs’ we necessarily only go ‘that’ far in the other direction.

And, we cannot control our ‘lows’ — If you have ever been depressed or totally exhausted, you know that the only thing that works at that point for you to get back into balance and harmony again is – rest.

Whenever I hear the word depressed now, I cut it into two words – deep rest. That is what we need when we are ‘depressed’.

We don’t need medication as we are not ‘sick’…We are exhausted from stress, or over stimulation, that is bigger than we know how to handle. And, if we keep pushing beyond our capacity for long enough – our bodies and minds will scream!

If we learn to watch for the ‘yellow light’ instead of waiting for the ‘glaring red light’ we will be so much better off.

Now, some will say…well, it does not sound like fun to have to control the ‘highs’…well, how fun is it to fall apart or be exhausted?

Well, at least if you know about this natural law of reality, you won’t be surprised when you go down, or end up totally exhausted because of ‘too much’ of whatever kind…

So, take the middle path…the great middle way…

I appreciate practical advice such as this. And I love your parsing of depress into deep rest.
