The Buddha came to help us wake up

screen-shot-2013-01-24-at-5-54-28-pmThe Buddha did not come to this world to make us feel comfortable – he came to help us wake up.

Wake up to the reality of samsara.

To help us see that the only way for us to attain lasting happiness is to get out of this cycle of suffering —

to put an end to this cycle of birth, disease, aging and death.

Like the Four Noble Truths state:

1. There is suffering.

2. There is a cause of suffering.

3. There is an end to suffering.

4. There is a path to the cessation of suffering.

All legitimate spiritual traditions have their own practices that lead to Enlightenment.

We don’t have to be Buddhist, but, we do need a legitimate spiritual tradition with a Teacher, whom we have access to, and one that is in disciplic succession to the original Teacher, so to know that the teachings we are receiving will indeed lead us there.

It’s always helpful for me to hear the basics articulated so cleanly and simply as has been done here. It is reassuring to keep in view a path of ascent that I am welcome to and capable of treading near or on.

  2. Dawa says:

Thank you Steve…We are all capable of this, since we all have exactly the same essence that the Buddhas have. Love & Light!

  3. Gede Prama says:

Well written. May peace be with you 🙂
