The left nostril we associate with ‘life’; meditation, peaceful activity, going to sleep…The right nostril we associate with ‘effort’; work, exercise, digestion, active learning, fight or flight mechanism.

These cycles change from left nostril to right nostril, all throughout the day and night, and if you want to you can change the pattern deliberately by closing one or the other…

On the physical level our breath oxygenates our body. The inhalation takes in universal prana and turns it into personal prana. The exhalation expels gaseous waste. When we breathe inappropriately we set up patterns that can lead to disease and lowered function. If this continues for a long period of time it can lead to structural disorders that are difficult to turn back.

When we understand the importance of being mindful of our breath, we see that if can help us in all ways and situations. By neutralizing emotion, by giving us more energy, by inducing calm and thus giving us the ability to deal with whatever comes our way in our daily life.

Breathe – you are alive…
