Perhaps this is so because our resolutions do not lead to the peace and happiness we seek. What we really want is not to lose weight, go to the gym, earn more money, or find the perfect partner. What we truly desire is happiness.

Because we mistakenly believe that we are different, separate, and in competition with other sentient beings for limited resources, we think, speak, and act in ways that generate our own and others’ suffering. Driven by attachment to the pleasant, aversion for the unpleasant, and indifference for that which we deem unimportant, we act without kindness and compassion ―we hurt others and generate the causes of our own suffering.
